This book is for those who are in need of wisdom or guidance
Below is my review of the daily stoic.
Ego and self-deception, only hinders learning, you can'[t learn from or educate someone who thinks they know it all already.
Most people won’t analyze themselves to determine, if they fall into this category. The problem with self development, education, fitness, religion, and the list can go on and on, is that people weaponize it to suite their needs rather than, help others.
In fact most people would rather, us this information as a weapon than a tool to themselves.
Self-Reflection is key
One thing I’ve been doing for the past few years is using Sundays to reflect on my week, and set my intentions for the following week. I would review the notes from books I read, and decide what I needed to do to become the man that I wanted to be.
My biggest regret would have to be missing out on getting my hands on a book like this sooner in my journey.
Self reflection allows you to put your ego and self in check, without being overly critical, and I strongly believe the daily stoic has the features needed to help you achieve this.
Most of us are overly critical of ourselves, and the daily stoic can help take the steps necessary in order to be less critical about the ups and downs of life.
It’s important to be aware of those around you as well. You may find yourself being overly critical of others. The other side of the coin is that you may find yourself placing others on a pedestal, when in fact you yourself are just as capable as they are.
You are the sum of the people you choose to hang around, and that is not limited to just physical interactions, but on social media as well.
If you hang around others to be a big fish in a small pond, you’ll never achieve much in life. Just as if you hang around others who are doing nothing in life, you can’t expect to live a meaningful life.
Daily Stoic Quotes:
All you need are these: certainty of judgment in the present moment; action for the common good in the present moment; and an attitude of gratitude in the present moment for anything that comes your way.
Most of us are afraid of dying. But sometimes this fear begs the question: To protect what exactly? For a lot of people the answer is: hours of television, gossiping, gorging, wasting potential, reporting to a boring job, and on and on and on.
The Daily Stoic Book Summary Notes:
Stoicism deals with the struggles of everyday life.
Manage your attention by using the advice of the Roman emperor, Marcus Aurelius. He wrote that we should approach each task as though it were our last.
Even though emotions can be capable of pushing us to act there are many reasons not to let them.
Being aware of our own cognitive biases can help us to retain clarity of our thoughts.
Cognitive behavioural therapy, which was developed from stoicism, can help teach people to identify negative thought patterns and begin to alter them into more positive patterns.
The best day for action is today.
Life is not about big leaps and bounds but small consistent efforts.
Use planning to manage your expectations.
Other books he’s wrote, that I own and have reviewed.
What books do I recommend from the list above?
The Obstacle is the way is a must read, and you can read my review for it here. It is probably his second most complete work in my opinion.
Ego is the enemy is a good read, but I would say skip it, its not really in my top 3 of his works.
Conspiracy is a complete skip, in my book.
The Daily Stoic is definitely a nice compilation, of daily inspiration,
Trust me, I’m lying, is a must read for those, who still believe in a world of organic traffic, and can’t decipher between pr stunts, and real life.
With the Perennial Seller, I would recommend Seth Godin’s work over this book, but its highlights the importance of creating meaningful long lasting work.
The Same can be said about Growth Hacker As well, there are other authors I would recommend.
