Emotions Revealed

Why should I Bother to read Emotions Revealed

Emotions revealed is the perfect entry level book for becoming more empathetic towards other..

I hate books like these usually anything pertaining to emotions, because they contain bias and info that don’t work for me.

For example.

Body language

Emotion revealed and several other books, say that body language is a must learn.

I agree but to some extent, I don’t agree, to me body language is subjective.]

For example the same movements, a white man makes, if I do them they would appear shady, due to my color.

Emotion revealed as with other books, of the same genre and topic, all say the same thing.

Some common flaws with body language

  1. If you’re illiterate in terms of understanding body language, it will only open the door for misinterpretations,.

  2. Your perception of other races can affect your ability to understand there movements,.

  3. Your understanding of different regions of the world can cause you to misread situations.

Emotions are a evolutionary tools

The ability to read body language can carry you far, but I see in my community, as well as on media outlets, a clear, direct and purposeful misinterpretation of body language by law enforcement.

In this case it protects the officer of wrong doing, because they feared for their lives, and the offender, who is ironically incapable of being offensive,n or were compliant the whole time, end up losing their lives.

Consider how easy it is to program the human mind. In a study in the book, a team of researchers issued electric shocks.

Because we are programmed to fear somethings like spiders, it only took one shock to get people to associate being shocked with seeing a picture of a spider.

While flowers took several shocks, to get people to associate flowers with the same fear  of being shocked.

Now in terms of racism, cops are taught to be prejudice, towards minority groups. In addition to what they inherently feel towards minorities,.

So in essence they are predators, and minorities are prey.

And if they inherently see themselves as good an miorites as evil, and it takes several shocks to associate fear with a flower.

Than what would be the real life programming required to make law enforcement treat minorities fairly..

Irrational emotional behavior

Because of how the media portrays things, people are inclined to feel an affinity towards what the media says is true.

Facial expressions

Again these books aren’t my cup of tea, because everything recommended can easily be thwarted by someone who is even remotely aware of what they are doing.

Summary of emotions revealed

Emotions revealed offers some insight into human behavior and emotions, its a bit dated so if you need a starting point I guess this would serve as one, but I would recommend skipping it.
