Start Punch Fear In the Face, Escape Average, Do Work That Matters

Why should I read Start

Start does, an excellent job of showing you what it means to actually execute on your ideas.

Most of us put off time and time again the very things that could change our lives.

Start breaks down why we must punch fear in the face. If we hope to escape an average life.

If you’re tired of being tired this book is for you.

Escape the Humdrum

Don’t think like a defeatist. We tend to talk ourselves out of being awesome. Instead we opt for being average.

Write down your dreams and fears. Decide if your fears are illogical or logical.

What are remedies you can create to prevent your fears from coming true?

Be realistic about your start

Where are you beginning your journey?

What areas of your life feel static and average? What needs to change in those areas of your life?

List things like debts, responsibilities both personal and professional.

Also consider  the social aspect of your life as well as your intellectual side as well.

Live with purpose stop waiting on it to come to you

The smoke screen most people use.

“I’m still searching for my purpose in life.”

This is just a masterful form of procrastination.

Don’t be like them. How you do anything is how you do everything.

Be more mindful of the tasks you enjoy doing,. Complete those tasks, and be present in them.

Keep the same energy when doing things you hate doing, that must be done.

This way you’ll be able to find your purpose, and have the work ethic, needed to elevate your purpose to the forefront of your life.

Our brains keep developing into our twenties, so don’t worry if you haven’t found your purpose.

Another thing you can do is google, how many people became millionaires in their 30’s,40’s,50’s, and 60’s.

Purpose takes time, but being present and mindful in your everyday life, can help you find your purpose.

5 Stages of success

  1. Learning

  2. Editing

  3. Mastering

  4. Harvesting

  5. Guiding

Learning

If you’re not willing to spend time learning, you will never get far. This is not to say you should have a 100% understanding of your industry.

But the more you know will never hinder you. But not knowing will.

Editing

Once you’ve began learning and you have a solid understanding of various topics. Decide which topics would be worthwhile to develop.

Mastering

Trading time, is what is recommended here, so things like volunteering can help.

I’m not a fan of working for free, I say take a low paying job doing what you like.

Or if you can offer your services on Fiverr or some other site, for a modest price, that is a better method n my opinion.

This way you take things seriously, and will get objective feedback.

Not many people will complain about free services. But they will complain about a service they paid for.

Harvesting

When you put in the work, there will be much to harvest. But just as a farmer would only grow crops that the market would buy. You must only create what your market wants to see from you.

Guiding

The best way to solidify your skills is to help others. Now technically you can consider this as a form of volunteering.

The easier it is to break down and explain a topic,  will allow you to gauge your mastery of that topic.

Summary of Start

Jon Acuff, book is  very simple and motivational read, its no reason you can’t read and apply his concepts.
